DISPATCH: SURF ID x JOSH OLDENBURG SURFBOARDS.

Local surfboard shaper, Josh Oldenburg, recently stopped by Aloha Beach Club and dropped off a fresh, quiver of surfboards that he made with Japanese shaper, Kenji Kono.

Earlier this summer Josh invited Kenji to visit and shape a collection of surfboards at his new, shop in San Diego. Although this wasn't their first shaping exchange (Josh shaped a collection of boards at Kenji's shop in Japan last year), the entire process was documented for a four-page feature in the newest issue of Japanese surf magazine, Blue.

I put together this short film, that documents the shaping process from start to finish, for Josh and Kenji. Make sure to stop by Aloha Beach Club, in North Park, to check out these classic shapes.

2015: A YEAR IN REVIEW

Twenty-fifteen was an amazing year for me. I was fortunate enough to travel a lot and spend time with an assortment of inspirational people.

Locations: California, Oahu, Maui, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Mexico, & New York.

Music by: La Femme - "It's Time to Wake Up"

SESSIONS: BLACK'S BEACH.

Black's Beach in autumn is pretty unreal. The water is still warm and the waves finally start picking up on a consistent basis. This ended up being the last session I documented before the seasons turned and San Diego got noticeably colder. I'm definitely looking forward to days like this once these storms pass.

DISPATCH: ROCKY POINT.

A grab bag of wave sliding via an assortment of North Shore locals and heaps of visitors.

Surfers : Balaram Stack, Noa Deane, Ryan Burch, Stephanie Gilmore, Yago Dora, Miguel Pupo, CJ Hobgood, Kahana Kalama, Jack Johnson, Caio Ibelli, Harrison Roach, Leonardo Fioravanti, Ola Eleogram, Dane Reynolds, Hank Gaskell, & Eric Geiselman.

Music: Gang Starr - "Work"

DISPATCH: BANZAI.

Sunday was a pretty hectic day on the North Shore. Pipeline flexed its power throughout the day and once again proved why it's such a force to be reckoned with.

Surfers : Derek Ho, Torrey Meister, Gabriel Medina, Michael Ho, Evan Valiere, Kaiwi Berry, Tyler Newton, Danny Fuller, Mikey Bruneau, Bruce Irons, Kala Alexander, Wiggolly Dantas, Brett Barley, Jason Frederico, & Owen Wright.

THUMBNAILS: EPISODE SIX // BROOKS STERLING.

Thumbnails is a collection of short films that focus on unique individuals, who have established careers based on their creative interests. Each film focuses on a person that I look up to or admire because of the unwavering dedication that they have for their craft.

The newest installment of Thumbnails is about Brooks Sterling, a lifestyle photographer and art director based out of North County San Diego. Brooks’ photography has a timeless aesthetic that stems from his keen eye and passion for shooting 35mm film. His timeless imagery captures the essence of surfing and skateboarding from a participatory perspective.

Thumbnails: Episode Six, explores Brooks’ creative process while shooting surf and skate sessions leading up to his most recent collaborative photo show, ROUTINE, at SAID Space. Throughout this episode, Brooks discusses why he chooses to shoot with analog cameras in order to capture meaningful moments on celluloid.

For more of Brooks’ work visit: www.iambrooks.com and follow him on Instagram at www.instagram.com/brookssterling.

SESSIONS: BLACK'S BEACH.

It's the first week of November and the ocean temperature is still unusually warm. Last Monday, our buddy's from Slowtide paid us a visit during a significant pulse in swell that was seen all over the county. So, we went for a splash in the near tropical waters and washed off the Monday blues with them. After the session we put their new, art-inspired towels to the test. I highly recommend getting your hands on one or all eight of them ASAP.

ON THE ROAD: SAN CLEMENTE.

Weekend camp trips can be pretty hectic if you have a big group of friends or a limited amount of time at your camping destination. Perched atop the bluffs overlooking San Clemente State Beach, The Holidaysoffers beach campers a super convenient and unique camping experience. They currently have four trailers set up around the perimeter of a large camping plot located in the heart of the San Clemente State Beach campground.

The crew at, Aloha Beach Club, had the opportunity to stay at The Holidays early last month and it was a blast. The trailers are perfect for families and/or groups of friends looking to getaway for the weekend. The beach is a five minute walk from the site and the trailers offer a plethora of amenities, which makes the entire experience seamless. I highly recommend looking into a reservation if you have a trip planned to San Clemente in the near future.
