SUMMATION.

This nacho normal foamie… We’re stoked to introduce the Mucho Aloha X Almond Surfboards R-Series surfboard - an all around softie that actually works when you put it to the test. It’s rugged, recyclable, ready to rip and 100% made in the USA. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned shreddah the R-series has something in-store for you. We recently took the Mucho Aloha x Almond Surfboards R-Series on a field test at one of our favorite spots in Baja. The stars aligned as our trip was perfectly timed with a healthy dose of tropical swell from Hurricane Rosa. One of our favorite things to do each fall is to trek north on the Pacific Coast Highway for a week of hanging, surfing, and hiking through the Golden State. We’ve done it every year since we opened our first store in 2011, and every field trip only gets better. This year was especially rad because we had the opportunity to partner with Subaru. Aloha Beach Club has endured a lot of change over the past few years. We’ve matured as business owners and both Billy and I have been challenged by the responsibilities of fatherhood. Rather than slowing down, we choose to adapt our adventures to involve the little ones in the fun. We loaded our boards, supplies, and families into a fleet of Subaru vehicles and hit the road. Billy commandeered a Subaru Outback, while I drove the all-new Subaru Ascent. With three rows of seating, this rig proved to be the perfect road trip machine for my family of five. In all, the trip was a huge success. It was an amazing experience to enjoy the beauty of California with our families. A huge thanks goes out to Subaru for making the trip happen and to all the hospitality we experienced along the way.

California based artist & muralist, Jonny Alexander, was commissioned by ocean awareness focused non-profit, PangeaSeed Foundation, to paint a mural at the Patagonia Outlet in Santa Cruz, CA. The mural itself uses site-specific symbolism from Santa Cruz to raise awareness in the community of the potential for offshore drilling, which the Trump Administration has vehemently supported and proposed to explore along U.S. coastlines. The mural is split between four windowpanes on the front facade of the Patagonia Outlet, where it depicts a scene from land to sea. Highlighted at the top of the mural is the phrase, “Protect the Protected: Say No to Offshore Drilling”, which was created by the Patagonia team in order to generate awareness and rally support to combat any efforts to reinstate or begin offshore drilling near U.S. coastal communities. Vissla's Cliff Kapono met up with fellow Creator & Innovator, Travis Reynolds, at the world famous Haut Shop board building space in Santa Cruz, CA earlier this spring. Kahana and I met while attending PLNU, so naturally Point Loma holds a special place in our hearts. Seeing Liberty Station come to life has been a dream come true. Liberty Station has become a mainstay for our family and it's an honor to share a typical day spent adventuring throughout the grounds of one of our favorite places in San Diego.

A DAY AT LIBERTY STATION WITH HAPA HOLIDAY.

Earlier this summer I spent three and a half weeks in Fiji documenting a medical research project for USC. The research centered around the alarming rate of diabetes within the Fijian Islands, specifically the Mamanuca Islands in Northern Fiji. Currently 30% of the Fijian population will be or has been diagnosed with diabetes. This surge in diabetes stems from an amalgamation of reasons, including agricultural changes throughout the country, a lack of proper medical resources, and globalization. The majority of my trip consisted of documenting one on one interviews with Fijian children discussing their diets, understanding of health, and experiences with family members that have been diagnosed with diabetes. Enjoy this short film that condenses my experience visiting the Fijian villages of Solevu, Yanuya, & Nacula into five, short minutes.
