DISPATCH: CLIFF'S NOTES ~ EPISODE ONE // SANTA CRUZ, CA.

Vissla's Cliff Kapono met up with fellow Creator & Innovator, Travis Reynolds, at the world famous Haut Shop board building space in Santa Cruz, CA earlier this spring. What started as a brief chat about surfboard design, quickly resulted in the creation of a traditional, wooden alaia shaped out of paulownia wood and coated with linseed oil.

From start to finish the process took about four hours, which gave Cliff the opportunity to test ride the alaia by lunchtime.

Surfers: Cliff Kapono & Kyle Buthman

Music: "Summertime" ~ Clarence Gatemouth Brown & "Lost Lost Lost" ~ Pratt & Moody

DISPATCH: CASUAL FRIDAY WITH – TY WILLIAMS.

Earlier this month I documented a new mural that Florida-based artist, Ty Williams, painted on the Banks Journal US HQ in Newport Beach, CA. This short film offers some insight into Ty's creative process and the new style of painting that he's been experimenting with over the last year.

Banks Journal had an unveiling party for the mural last Friday at their inaugural "Casual Friday" event. Drinks were provided by Vacancy Coffee Bar Pabst Blue Ribbon. A special thanks goes out to Ty and the Banks Journal crew for supporting this rad project and event.

DISPATCH: GUAYAKI ~ COME TO LIFE WITH KASSIA MEADOR & CYRUS SUTTON.

Two, new short films I put together about Guayaki Amiga & Amigo, Kassia Meador and Cyrus Sutton

"Pushing the limits of women's surf culture has always been natural for amiga Kassia Meador. She continually encourages her tribe to express themselves freely and be who they are meant to be. She takes the stand as an active leader for positive change in causes she feels passionate about, especially environmentally and socially."  ~ Guayaki

"Life doesn't slow down for anyone, including amigo Cyrus Sutton. Despite today's fast pace, there's no better time than NOW to take a break, grab a tereré and enjoy the things you love most in order to #ComeToLife. Here's Cyrus finding a moment of clarity in his old backyard in San Diego between tour stops for his film Island Earth." ~ Guayaki

If you happen to be heading out to Indio this weekend for Weekend Two, stop by the ABC booth and check out the shop's fresh assortment of home goods & clothing manufactured in Hawaii.

ON THE ROAD: SXSW 2017.

Earlier this month I spent two weeks on the road with Oakland based band, Babewatch, as they traveled to SXSW 2017 in Austin, Texas. On the way to Austin, Babewatch played shows in Los Angeles and Tucson, AZ.

SXSW was an eventful and exciting experience. All week long the city was packed to the brim with musicians, artists, celebrities, and visitors taking in the event's bountiful film screenings, conferences, and live shows. Babewatch played a handful of shows throughout the city and they finished off the week in San Antonio at Burger Records' Hangover Fest.

The "SXSW : VIGNETTES" below give a glimpse into the everyday happenings at SXSW 2017.
